Going alone or with someone

What changes if you travel solo, with a friend, or with a partner.

Going solo

Alone means you choose your pace between sessions. Meals and gatherings still happen with the group. You do not need a companion to attend, and you do not owe the group a full account of why you came.

Tell one person at home your dates and how to reach the operator. Book the ride you will actually take from the airport or town, including the way back. On rest days you can keep to yourself. Staff are the people to ask for help, not a stranger you met that afternoon.

The stay guide describes how those days usually run, whether or not you traveled with someone.

What the days are like

With a friend

A friend is company on the journey and a familiar face at meals. Agree, before you book, how much of the day you will spend together. You can sit near each other at night and still take rest days apart.

One person’s hard night is not the other’s job to manage. Facilitators are there for that. Decide in advance that either of you can skip a conversation, leave a meal early, or take a walk alone without it becoming a problem between you.

With a partner

A partner shares the trip and, often, the room. You may still want different things from the week. Say that before you pay: how much time together, what you will tell people at home, and that each of you can speak to staff without the other in the room.

Do not treat the stay as the moment to settle a fight or announce a life change. The days are already full. If you need a private talk, ask staff for a quiet place and a time that is not a ceremony night.

Shared rooms

Ask which room the quote assumes. A friend or a partner often means one shared room. Going solo can still mean a room with someone you have not met, unless you ask for a private room. A private room is often an extra. Get that line on the written quote before you agree.

In a shared room, keep bags contained, agree on lights-out, and step outside for anything long. If sharing will not work, say so before arrival. Changing rooms on the first night is harder than changing the quote.

What the price covers

When one person wants to leave

Either person can leave without the other. Tell staff, then use the ride you already know how to book. The person who stays should not be pressed to leave. The person who leaves should not be pressed to stay. You do not have to explain the choice to the group.

Money already paid follows the refund rule on the quote. Read that rule before you travel so the decision is about the stay, not a surprise at the door.

If the reason is safety, stop and read the safety guide. This page does not list warning signs.
